The Nationals WA take a stand on protecting property rights
The WA Labor Government has robbed West Australians of their property rights under an Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act which will be scrapped and re-written under a National Party in Government.
Leader of The Nationals WA Shane Love has stamped his Party’s intention to protect the property rights of West Australians up to and beyond the 2025 WA State election.
Mr Love made the announcement in an address to the Party’s Membership, saying the WA Labor Government had gone too far and something must be done.
“Regional communities and regional industries are under attack from Labor Governments at both levels with the degree of government overreach becoming unbearable, with WA the most regulated State in the Country,” Mr Love said.
“When a farmer working hard to feed our nation can’t move a fencepost for fear of court, when fisherman can’t catch a fish, timber towns are being shut down, livestock producers are destocking, and homeowners can’t plant a tree without navigating an impossible system – Labor have gone too far.
“The National Party is taking a stand on protecting property rights, across Western Australia and our State and it’s people deserve a common sense Government.”
Mr Love said between now and 2025, the Party will outline their plan to bolster property rights, consulting with community and industry to ensure the policy accurately reflects the needs of the State and does not stand in the way of business.
“An elected National Party in Government will rewrite the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act, to ensure heritage is protected and the requirements of landholders are reasonable and clear,” Mr Love said.
“West Australians want to do the right thing and they should be able to operate with confidence in a system which protects heritage and protects their rights.”
Mr Love said the implementation of the ACH Act was yet another example of a Labor Government too arrogant to take seriously community concern, as they refused to properly consult on the regulations.
“Despite nearly 30,000 West Australians calling for a delay to the Act, and the WA Labor Government conceding their timeline was arbitrary, they forged ahead and created even more confusion through yet another unclear process setting up an implementation group,” he said.
“Enough is enough and the Nationals WA are committed to genuine and thorough consultation with stakeholder to ensure regulations are reasonable and workable.
“The WA Labor Government is reckless to abandon the opinion of people who will interact with the Act everyday. We will fix these laws to restore confidence and job security for all West Australians and ensure the protection of fundamental property rights.”
