Person struck by a train on the Gartell Light Railway, Somerset, 17 April 2025.

At 09:35 on Thursday 17 April 2025, a volunteer member of staff was struck by a
wagon and seriously injured near to Common Lane level crossing on the Gartell

The wagon involved was part of a train which was transporting staff, equipment and

which was regularly used to carry staff, when they were struck by it. The train was
moving at a slow speed when the accident occurred.

We have undertaken a preliminary examination into the circumstances surrounding
this accident. Having assessed the evidence which has been gathered to date, we
have decided to publish a safety digest .
