TRC Outlines Priorities to Federal Election Candidates
Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) has this week written to all candidates in the Federal seats of Groom and Maranoa to put forward its priorities for the 2025 Federal election.
Toowoomba Region Mayor Geoff McDonald said it was crucial all candidates running for office in the two Federal seats which take in the Toowoomba Region were aware of Council’s priorities.
“The purpose of our correspondence this week is to highlight to all candidates that local government is a key partner to the Australian Government in delivering infrastructure and services that ensure our communities continue to grow and prosper.
“The Toowoomba Region is a unique case in that we are a significant solution to the growing pains to our east while being the major service delivery centre for the regions to our west.
“Without a fairer funding model which considers the key role that local governments play, communities like the Toowoomba Region will be left behind.
“We expect our Federal representatives to consider initiatives which form the basis of a true partnership between local government and the Australian Government,” Mayor McDonald said.
Key priorities Council outlined to candidates this week included:
“We particularly want candidates to be aware of TRC’s strong position in supporting the Local Government Association of Queensland’s ‘Don’t leave us stuck in the 70s’ campaign which aims to highlight the current funding model supporting Councils was introduced more than 50 years ago.
“We wish all candidates across the seats of Groom and Maranoa the best of luck for Saturday May 3 and look forward to working with the successful candidates into the future.”
