UAB Researchers Win Serra Húnter Talent Awards

On Wednesday 9 July the first Serra Húnter Talent Recognition event was held. The event, held in the gardens of the Palau Robert, celebrated the academic excellence and quality of Catalan public universities with the entire Serra Húnter community, more than 1,100 lecturers.

This event highlights the activity of Serra Húnter lecturers at the seven public universities of Catalonia and its impact on the entire system since the launch of the Serra Húnter Plan in 2003. The evening was attended by Lluís Marsal, academic director of the Plan, and Núria Montserrat, Catalan Minister for Research and Universities.

With the aim of recognising all the work carried out by the Serra Húnter lecturers, a set of awards in different categories was created, with one person receiving an award in each category for each of the Catalan public universities. On behalf of the UAB, the following people received awards: Maria Montserrat Rifà Valls, from the Department of Didactics of Musical, Plastic and Corporal Expression, received the award for Teaching Excellence; Xavier Jordana Comin, from the Department of Animal Biology, Plant Biology and Ecology, received the award for Research Excellence; Marc Furio Bruno, from the Department of Geology, received the award for Scientific, Humanistic or Artistic Dissemination; Salvador Ventura Zamora, from the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, received the award for Knowledge Transfer; and Miquel Torregrossa Álvarez, from the Department of Basic, Evolutionary and Educational Psychology, the award for Career Excellence.

The Serra Húnter Plan is an initiative of the Government of Catalonia that aims to promote recruitment in Catalan public universities of highly qualified teaching and research staff with excellent academic and international experience, following a selective process in accordance with international standards.
