UN Envoy on Healthy Environment to Visit Ireland
GENEVA - The UN Special Rapporteur on the right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment, Astrid Puentes Riaño, will conduct a country visit to Ireland from 9 to 20 February.
During her visit, Puentes Riaño will examine substantive elements of the right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment in the country. These include clean air, the sustainable use of water, healthy food systems, healthy biodiversity and ecosystems, non-toxic environments and a safe climate.
The Special Rapporteur will also examine procedural elements of the right including access to information, public participation, and access to justice, and issues related to the protection of environmental human rights defenders.
The expert will meet with Government officials, representatives of academia and members of civil society. She will visit Galway and Cork.
Puentes Riaño will hold a press conference to present her preliminary findings on 20 February at 11:00 am local time at the Ceder and Cypress Suite, University College Dublin, Belfield Campus Dublin 4. Access will be strictly limited to accredited journalists.
A report on the visit will be presented to the UN Human Rights Council in March 2027.
