
UN Expert on Assembly and Association to Visit Chile
GENEVA – The UN Special Rapporteur on freedom of peaceful of assembly and of association, Gina Romero, will conduct an official visit to Chile from 14 to 23 July 2025. The visit is taking place at the invitation of the Government.
Romero will assess the legal and policy framework, institutional practices and social context relating to the right to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association. She will also examine access to justice and reparations for victims of human rights violations in the context of protests, focusing on satisfaction and guarantees of non-repetition. The Rapporteur will review whether the lessons learned from past events have led to a present in which the right to peaceful assembly is exercised freely and fully.
The Special Rapporteur will meet with authorities from the three branches of government, as well as representatives from independent institutions, the international community, the media, human rights defenders, civil society organisations and academia. She will travel to Valparaíso, San Antonio and Temuco.
