UN Water and Sanitation Expert to Visit Egypt
GENEVA - The United Nations Special Rapporteur on the human rights to safe drinking water and sanitation, Pedro Arrojo-Agudo, will conduct a visit to Egypt from 8 to 17 February 2026 at the invitation of the Government.
During the visit, Arrojo-Agudo will examine the enjoyment of human rights to safe drinking water and sanitation in the country, including key dimensions of these rights: availability, accessibility, affordability, quality and safety, and acceptability. He will also assess water governance, the impacts of climate change on water resources, and challenges faced by communities in vulnerable situations.
The expert will travel to various governorates and meet with government authorities, organisations, communities, UN entities, and other relevant actors.
The Special Rapporteur will hold a press conference on 17 February 2026 at 12 pm (local time) at the Sofitel Downtown Cairo. Access will be strictly limited to accredited journalists.
A final report with findings and recommendations will be presented to the Human Rights Council 63rd session.
