Vanderbilt Doubles Station B Parcel Lockers
Vanderbilt Mail Services is expanding its parcel locker system at the Station B Post Office in Rand Hall, nearly doubling the number of lockers available to students, faculty and staff. Construction to install the new lockers will begin the week after Commencement and is expected to be complete by the start of the fall 2025 semester. Service will continue without interruption during the project, though visitors may notice construction activity in the area over the summer months.
This major enhancement, developed in collaboration with Vanderbilt Student Government’s Campus Services Committee, reflects Auxiliary Services‘ ongoing commitment to delivering innovative, best-in-class solutions that meet the evolving needs of the campus community.
Vanderbilt was among the first universities in the country to implement an automated parcel locker system, introducing lockers at Station B in 2015 to simplify package pickup and reduce long lines at the service counter. That early investment in student-facing technology helped shape how colleges and universities nationwide approached campus mail services. Over the past decade, demand for package pickup has continued to grow, with Vanderbilt Mail Services processing more than 215,000 packages annually.
The current upgrade builds on that legacy by expanding Station B’s parcel locker capacity from 496 to 980 units-nearly doubling the number of available lockers and significantly improving access during peak times such as move-in, holidays and semester transitions. The new locker system will feature faster, more reliable software and allow staff to load packages while others are retrieving theirs-something not possible with the legacy system. Students will continue to enjoy extended pickup hours, as the upgraded lockers offer secure after-hours access to accommodate busy and varied schedules.
“This project is a great example of how collaboration can directly improve the student experience,” said Olivia Noell, undergraduate student and chair of the Student Services Committee. “With double the number of lockers, students can now pick up packages more efficiently and with far shorter wait times, especially during high-volume seasons like move-in. We’re thrilled to partner with Mail Services on this meaningful enhancement.”
The updated lockers will continue to be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Students will receive email notifications when their packages are available for pickup, with instructions directing them to the appropriate locker bay.
Planning for the expansion began in response to growing student feedback about delays and long lines at Station B during busy times of the academic year. Mail Services staff worked closely with student leaders to better understand pain points and explore practical improvements. That feedback played a crucial role in selecting a new locker system, which offers both increased capacity and a more efficient user experience.
In addition to the locker expansion, the Station B employee work area will undergo much-needed renovations, including ceiling, flooring and lighting upgrades. By coordinating construction efforts, Mail Services is minimizing downtime and disruptions while improving working conditions for staff and enhancing service to the community.
“This investment is about more than just hardware-it’s about creating a better experience for everyone who relies on Mail Services,” said Sean Carroll, senior director of communications and marketing for the Division of Administration. “We’re proud to lead with innovative, student-informed solutions that make life on campus a little easier.”
