Juukan Gorge, destroyed....

Victorian Greens

Juukan Gorge, destroyed.

Djab Wurrung trees, cut down.

This never should have happened.

If we had stronger protections – and Traditional Owners had veto rights over what happens on their Country – it wouldn’t have.

Today the Greens are launching a plan to protect First Nations cultural heritage in Victoria.

Treaty means listening to First Nations people and protecting cultural heritage.

If it is serious about Treaty, the Vic Labor Government cannot allow the destruction of culturally significant sites – nor erase First Nations place names.

The Greens want to see veto rights given to Traditional Owners over developments that threaten sites of cultural significance.

We also want to establish a $1b fund to buy back sacred sites on private land, and return them to Traditional Owners.

With more Greens in parliament, we can push the next government to give First Nations true power over their cultural heritage.
