Let Victoria’s most disadvantaged students keep laptops on loan – Sam Hibbins MP
Watch Greens MP Sam Hibbins with a follow-up question to the Victorian Education Minister during the PAEC Hearings, on whether the government will give security to our states most disadvantaged students by allowing them to keep laptops and devices that are currently only on loan to them. These kids deserve the same essential access to online learning than other kids do.
Due to the unprecedented health pandemic, most of Victoria’s students have been required to start learn remotely, and are doing their best under tough circumstances. The need to learn online however has highlighted a huge gap in access in basic access to the internet and computers that many students face compared to their peers. In response over 70 000 laptops and 25 000 internet devices are now on loan to the most disadvantaged students across our state. We think these students should be able to keep them, so they are no longer disadvantaged.
