Samantha Ratnam questions the Bell St Redevelopment Plan
Samantha Ratnam questions the government on the Bell St Redevelopment Plan and their refusal to listen to local communities.
The Government & LXRP are once again refusing to listen to local communities.
Residents surrounding Bell Station have made one simple ask as part of the station redevelopment – that the access road to the car park be on the west side where there are no houses, instead of on their narrow, winding residential streets with many small children living on them.
Instead of agreeing to the simple request, locals have been dismissed and misled. They were told that the traffic safety assessment found the current route through residential streets is safer. When in fact, a Greens Freedom of Information reveals they didn’t even do an assessment of the carpark access on the western side.
Why? We suspect that its because the government wants to sell the land on the western side to developers and won’t shave off even a few meters for a road to the car park. Once again they are putting profits ahead of the community.
Samantha Ratnam raised this issue in parliament and will keep advocating for this and other communities who fall victim to this disrespectful approach.
