The gymnastics of trickle down housing
New research from the Parliamentary Library shows that the annual income needed to afford a house is now 1.6 times that of the average Australian wage.
In Melbourne, the required income to buy a home and not be in housing stress is nearly $190k!
The system is broken. But we can fix it by ending tax breaks for investors and big property developers, like negative gearing, which drives up ⬆️ the price of housing. And by building more, quality homes that people can actually afford.
