Victoria’s justice system could be designed to keep everyone safe and improve the wellbeing of everyone in our community.
Yet our justice system, under the watch of Labor Government, is locking people up in record numbers – putting them on a path that often has no way out. This hurts all of us. It especially hurts First Nations people.
In the last year alone, three First Nations people have died in custody in Victoria.
This Labor Government has also imprisoned more Victorians than *any other state government in the last 120 years*
Under their policies, record numbers of women, First Nations people and young people have been locked up.
This is to our shame.
The Greens have a plan to:
⚫ Close two of Victoria’s prisons
⚫ Raise the age of criminal responsibility to at least 14, to protect young children from prison
⚫ Reform our justice system and
⚫ Reinvest the billions saved in common sense solutions that are proven to protect community safety, like early intervention programs and secure housing.
