When homes were flooded last year during the Maribyrnong river floods, the Flemington Racecourse was protected by this flood wall – which the State government approved despite community and council objections.
It’s a pretty clear demonstration of the Labor government’s priorities.
But today the Greens have secured a Parliamentary Inquiry into how this flood wall impacted neighbouring homes, and why it was approved in the first place.
Climate disasters like these floods are becoming more and more frequent and we need good planning that is going to better protect everyone – not just the Labor Government’s vested interests.
