Victorian Greens

Young people are some of the hardest hit by Victoria’s housing crisis.

A quarter of Victorians experiencing homelessness are aged between 12 and 24.

Alll young people should have a safe roof over their heads.

That’s why we have a plan for a ‘Youth Housing Guarantee’, to ensure young people can access specialist youth housing.

Right now, young people experiencing homelessness often end up in unsafe and overcrowded temporary accommodation or rooming houses.

A Youth Housing Guarantee, as the name suggests, will GUARANTEE that any person under 25 who presents to a homelessness service will get access to safe, specialist youth housing.

🩹 No more band-aid solutions – we need a guarantee that the government will end youth homelessness.

Alongside the Youth Housing Guarantee, the Greens have a plan to end homelessness in Victoria by:

🏠 Building 100,000 new public homes over 10 years, enough to house everyone on the public housing waiting list and more.
🏠 Legislating a target to end homelessness in Victoria by 2030. The Greens already have a Bill before the Victorian Parliament that would require the government to develop a plan to end homelessness this decade. With more Greens in parliament, we’ll make this Bill a priority.

Just like we invest in health and education, we can invest in the housing system to make sure everyone has a safe place to call home.
