Bringing home a new baby for the first time is incredibly special – but can be overwhelming and challenging too.
And with so much focus on the newborn, it’s sometimes easy to forget that new parents need looking after too.
Parents have told us they need more support. Labor has listened, and here’s what we’ll do.
Maternal child and healthcare nurses make all the difference to so many families, from just days after a baby is born all the way through to 3-5 years.
So we’ll increase the number of hours families can spend with them.
We’ll deliver more lactation consultations as well for new mums – and build eight new Early Parenting Centres, including Victoria’s first Aboriginal led centre.
But that’s not all. Labor will create more dads’ groups around the state, to make sure fathers have the support they need.
And we’ll expand multicultural story times for kids, to strengthen connection to their families heritage, and Victoria’s multiculturalism.
Only Labor will help new parents look after themselves, so they can look after their new baby – because only Labor will do what matters.
