Victorian Nationals: Delivering reliable water connections for country towns

The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien says more people in country towns will be connected to town sewerage and water supply under a $40 million plan by The Nationals and Liberals in government.

Mr O’Brien, also the Shadow Minister for Water, said the Small Towns Water and Sewerage Fund, would allow eligible water authorities to receive dollar-for-dollar funding to install town sewerage or potable water supplies in smaller communities.

“This is a great fund that could benefit towns in Gippsland South seeking to be sewered including Fish Creek, Dumbalk and Sandy Point.

“I’ve seen business plans in places like Sandy Point stall due to septic issues – under this fund sewerage infrastructure could be installed for the whole town alleviating that problem,” said Mr O’Brien.

The Small Towns Water and Sewerage Fund provides support for important infrastructure that was removed by the Andrews Labor Government when they axed a similar fund – the Country Towns Water Supply and Sewerage Program.

“In this day and age a lack of potable water and sewerage infrastructure should not be holding back our small towns.

“This is a real solution from The Nationals to support growing communities in our small towns.”
