Emma Kealy & John Pesutto – Premier must release report on injecting room in CBD
Wednesday 21 February 2024
Premier Jacinta Allan has refused to say when the Government will release the long-awaited report by Ken Lay on an injecting room in Melbourne’s CBD.
This is despite the Legislative Council today passing a motion requiring the Allan Government to produce the report to Parliament by 6 March.
The report by former Police Commissioner Ken Lay is more than three years overdue and today the Premier refused to say when it will be released.
Leader of the Opposition, John Pesutto, said: “Is the Premier saying she will defy the motion by the Legislative Council and not release the report?
“The Government has had more than ample time to release this report and must do promptly so people who live and work in the CBD know whether there will be another injecting room.”
Shadow Minister for Mental Health, Emma Kealy, said: “The Premier should comply with motion passed by the Legislative Council and release the contents of the report.
“The Government has had the final report for almost nine months. There’s no excuses left. No more secrets, the Lay Report must be made public.”
