Kealy Farnham Battin – Joint statement on Electoral Matters Committee Inquiry into the…

The Victorian Liberals and Nationals today acknowledge the tabling of the Electoral Matters Committee Inquiry into the conduct of the 2022 Victorian State Election.
Whilst the adoption of the Liberals and Nationals’ proposal to reform Group Voting Tickets for the Legislative Council is a positive step, it is disappointing further important reforms have been ignored by Labor.
Given reforms to Group Voting Tickets were an accepted recommendation from a Parliamentary Review into the 2018 Victorian State Election, yet never implemented, the focus must now be on actually delivering meaningful changes prior to the 2026 State Election.
Furthermore, the refusal of the Allan Labor Government to establish a Parliamentary Inquiry into the dealings of Mr Glenn Druery undermines the integrity and accountability of the Victorian Parliament.
Every Victorian deserves to have the utmost confidence in our democracy and the Victorian Liberals and Nationals will continue to support measures to improve transparency, accessibility and fair representation across our electoral system.
