Kime O'Keeffe MP - O'Keeffe calls for further assistance for the Nathalia community...

The Nationals' Member for Shepparton District, Kim O'Keeffe, has called on the Allan Labor Government and the Minister for Energy and Resources, Lily D'Ambrosio, to provide answers as to how residents and business owners of Nathalia will be further supported from Solstice Energy's decision to cease its compressed natural gas network connection to its township from August 16 this year.

In questioning the Minister in Parliament this week, Ms O'Keeffe argued that the current financial support being offered to affected residents and businesses does not "cover" the high transition costs.

"This decision by Solstice Energy has left many residents and businesses in Nathalia significantly financially impacted by this transition and deeply distressed.

"Over 150 residents and local businesses in Nathalia are impacted, with many that are expected to pay thousands of dollars that they simply do not have," Ms O'Keeffe said.

Ms O'Keeffe stated that this decision was not a consumer choice, but rather it is a government driven shut down.

"The people of Nathalia need the Allan Labor Government to understand the significant financial impact of this decision and looming cut-off date.

"If you are going to impact on people's lives in such a significant way by forcing to replace appliances and upgrade electrical systems, you must provide the financial assistant needed to do so.

"The current offering is nowhere near enough and supporting the community of Nathalia during this time needs to be a priority.

"I will continue to advocate and stand with affected residents and businesses of Nathalia in getting the upmost support and assistance they need and deserve.

"Labor can't manage money, can't manage energy and regional Victorians are paying the price."
