Victoria's ADHD Reforms to Aid Patient Care

The Pharmacy Guild of Australia, Victoria Branch welcomes the Victorian Government's announcement that GPs who undertake accredited training will be able to diagnose and treat ADHD in children and adults.

"This important decision by the Allan Government and Victorian Health Minister Mary-Anne Thomas, will ensure patients are able to access the treatment and support they need without costly referrals or long waits," said The Pharmacy Guild of Australia, Victoria Branch President, George Tambassis.

With state governments in Queensland, NSW, South Australia and Western Australia already phasing in similar reforms, this is an important change for Victorian patients.

"Patients should be able to access the same level of care from healthcare providers, regardless of the state or territory they are in," said Mr Tambassis.

"We have seen how successful this approach has been in community pharmacy and it's pleasing to see other healthcare providers being able to expand the range of services offered.

"Expanding the services offered by GPs, once they have undertaken additional training, will lead to better health outcomes and more effective services. And that's a win for patients," said Mr Tambassis.
