Max Chandler-Mather on Brisbane Airport flight noise and aviation industry control over politics

If a cap and curfew is good enough for Sydney, why isn’t it good enough for Brisbane?

Last night in Parliament, I spoke in support of the Greens motion calling on the government to consider a cap and curfew for other Australian airports, like Brisbane’s where thousands of people are struggling with a daily barrage of extreme aircraft noise.

In the end, Labor voted this down and the LNP skipped the vote entirely.

By refusing a cap and curfew on Brisbane airport, the government is choosing to line the pockets of airline corporations at the cost of Brisbane resident’s physical and mental health.

The Greens are calling for a cap and curfew simply to balance the interests of airlines making billions in profits, with Brisbane resident’s right to a good night’s sleep.
