Scott Ludlam urges the Senate to fix the fundamentally flawed cluster munitions bill.
August 20th 2012: Senator Scott Ludlam warns of loopholes in the Australian Government’s cluster munitions bill that will allow Australian forces to store, transport and assist in the use of cluster bombs, and will allow Australian companies to invest in cluster bombs… Despite Australia signing the 2008 Convention to eradicate these weapons.
The Australian Greens moved two amendments to fix this law, but ultimately they were defeated by Labor and the Coalition (only the Greens and Senator Xenophon voted for them) – allowing a basically useless bill to pass into law. A sad day – but the campaign to rid the world of cluster bombs will continue.
