Senator Larissa Waters speaks in support of the Greens Climate Trigger Bill
Currently, our environment laws do not require the Minister for the Environment to consider the impacts of climate change on nature when assessing a project. These laws are undergoing reform at the moment, but the Albanese government has indicated they have no intention to include any climate change provision in them.
This Bill would ensure that every project assessed under the EPBC Act would have to undergo a climate test. It would allow the minister to reject projects due to their potentially damaging impact on the climate and biodiversity.
