The National Anti Corruption Commission won’t stop corporate influence over politics
The Greens have been pushing for a federal corruption watch dog for 13 years, and I was glad to see the NACC bill pass the lower house last week. But the NACC on its own won’t go nearly far enough is tackling the massive influence that big corporations wield over our political process. Under our current laws it’s perfectly legal for ministers to take jobs as lobbyists representing the industries they were supposed to be regulating, or for companies to spend up to $110,000 a year on cash for access meetings that aren’t even counted as donations.
