No Seismic Blasting – Warrnambool Paddle-out – Sarah Mansfield and Ellen Sandell
On Sunday Jan 21st 2024, Sarah Mansfield and Ellen Sandell joined hundreds of community members in a paddle-out in Warrnambool to oppose seismic blasting and fossil fuel extraction in the Otway Basin.
Along with organisers from OCEAN, Surfrider Foundation, Australian Marine Conservation Society and Southern Ocean Protection Embassy Collective, Greens MPs addressed the the crowd, and then paddled out from the Warrnambool breakwater to oppose continued exploration of fossil fuels in our oceans.
Community opposition is clear; the global impacts of seismic blasting have no public benefit. The damage to our environment from such projects is twofold: the impact on marine life, and the global heating effects that are a direct consequence of fossil fuel extraction.
The Victorian Greens are proud to stand with First Nations community, and alongside thousands of regional Victorians who are determined to conserve our oceans and our climate for future generations.
