WA Gov Pushes Health, Innovation Links in Singapore
Science and Innovation Minister Stephen Dawson is travelling to Singapore this week to showcase Western Australia’s growing medical technology (medtech) ecosystem.
The Minister will attend Life Science Intelligence (LSI) Asia 2025, an international forum for health and medical life sciences investment, and participate in a high-level roundtable with government stakeholders, industry and innovation leaders.
Western Australia’s medtech capabilities will be in the spotlight at LSI Asia 2025, with local companies OncoRes Medical and VeinTech presenting their innovations as part of the event’s global pitch program.
OncoRes Medical will be showcasing its Elora scanning device that helps surgeons identify cancerous tissue during breast cancer removal surgeries, while VeinTech will be profiling its VeinWise device to improve success rates for the insertion of cannulas.
Western Australia is also home to Orthocell, one of the ASX’s top-performing biotech companies in 2024, which secured regulatory approval for its Remplir regenerative medical device for nerve repair in Singapore in October 2024.
The visit builds on the State’s longstanding relationship with Singapore, underpinned by strong trade, investment and innovation links. Singapore is the State’s fourth largest trading partner, with $14.4 billion in goods traded in 2024.
Western Australia’s medtech sector is supported by major State Government investment in research, infrastructure, commercialisation and venture capital.
The Minister will also meet with the Action Community for Entrepreneurship Singapore, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding last year to support knowledge sharing and innovation exchange between the two regions.
Following LSI Asia 2025, several Singaporean medtech companies will travel to Perth in July to explore collaboration and partnerships through this agreement.
Perth will host Australia’s premier medtech conference, AusMedTech 2026, which presents a major opportunity for international companies to connect with the State’s expanding ecosystem of startups, manufacturers and researchers.
As stated by Science and Innovation Minister Stephen Dawson:
“Singapore is a vital trade and investment partner for Western Australia, and this visit provides an opportunity to deepen our shared commitment to innovation, investment and health outcomes across the region.
“Western Australia is home to a rapidly growing health and medical life sciences sector, supported by a world-class biomedical precinct and a strong pipeline of innovation and talent.
“The Cook Government is committed to building a diverse and resilient economy that creates high-quality jobs, attracts global investment and positions Western Australia as a leader in medtech and medical research.”
