WA Hosts Key National Climate Adaptation Summit

The Western Australian Government is bringing Climate Adaptation 2025, Australia’s premier national conference on climate adaptation, impact and vulnerability, to Perth for the first time.

Aboriginal Affairs, Water, Climate Resilience and South West Minister Don Punch will deliver a ministerial address with a focus on WA’s Climate Adaptation Strategy, which is ensuring the State’s communities, environment and economy are resilient to climate change.

Hosted by the National Environmental Science Program’s (NESP) Climate Systems Hub, this biennial conference is set to be a key gathering for experts, practitioners, and policymakers in the field of climate adaptation.

The conference will provide a platform to share knowledge, foster collaboration, and enhance the growing network of adaptation research and practice across Australia.

Over three days, attendees can expect a comprehensive program that includes plenary sessions with local and international speakers, panel discussions, and workshops addressing a wide range of climate-related challenges.

The conference will also feature discussion forums where delegates can present their research and insights, creating an interactive environment for exchange and learning.

Comments attributed to Aboriginal Affairs, Water, Climate Resilience and South West Minister Don Punch:

“Climate adaptation isn’t a solo effort – it’s a collective responsibility that requires the voice and action of government, every sector and community.

“WA’s Climate Adaptation Strategy has been shaped by consultation with Aboriginal people, the expertise of researchers, and the lived experience of communities on the frontline of climate change.

“Western Australians are resourceful, innovative and resilient. Together, we will ensure WA’s communities, economy and environment adapt to the challenges of climate change and thrive into the future.”

As stated by Energy and Decarbonisation Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson:

“The Climate Resilience Conference is an opportunity to learn from leading researchers in the field of climate adaptation, and I am sure it will produce valuable outcomes.

“In the long-term, the Cook Government can assist by vigorously pursuing our clean energy transition, promoting and supporting the development of renewable energy projects across Western Australia and helping hard-to-abate sectors to achieve their decarbonisation targets.

“We also have a role to play in assisting our international trading partners to decarbonise as we continue to tackle the climate change challenge.”
