WasteSorted Grants Now Open For Community Education

Community groups, not-for-profits, local governments and other eligible organisations across Western Australia can now apply for a share in $250,000 through the WasteSorted Community Education Grants program.

Administered by the Waste Authority, the program provides up to $25,000 per project for initiatives that promote waste avoidance, resource recovery and environmental protection through education and better waste practices.

Projects may include workshops, campaigns, research and other community-based initiatives that align with the Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Strategy 2030. Applicants are encouraged to use the WasteSorted toolkit and the Be a GREAT Sort campaign messages for consistent State-wide communication.

The grants empower communities to tackle key waste issues, including plastics, food organics, textiles, and hazardous waste, by fostering long-term behaviour change.

The State Government has provided more than $10 million to reduce waste through the WasteSorted Community Education and Infrastructure grants since 2017.

Applications open today and close on 11 August 2025. More information and application details are available at: WasteSorted Community Education Grants

As stated by the Environment Minister Matthew Swinbourn:

“Whether it’s a local repair caf, or a campaign to reduce single-use plastics in a regional area, these projects help drive real change.

“Our government is proud to back grassroots action that contributes to a cleaner, more sustainable Western Australia.

“We’re committed to making landfill the last resort, and this grants program is another important step towards creating a low-waste, sustainable State.”
