Western Australia To Welcome New Flights From Newcastle
Travel from New South Wales to Western Australia will soon become even easier, with Qantas today announcing a new year-round direct service between Newcastle and Perth.
Launching on 8 September 2025, the nonstop flights will operate three times per week and are expected to deliver an additional 23,400 inbound seats to WA each year.
The WA Government, through Tourism WA, has worked in partnership with Perth Airport, Newcastle Airport and Destination NSW to secure the service and enhance WA’s domestic aviation connectivity.
The flight marks the first time Perth has ever been directly connected to NSW’s Hunter Valley region, making it easier than ever for travellers from northern NSW to explore everything Perth has to offer.
The new service is also great news for east coast NRL fans, making it more convenient for Newcastle-based supporters to travel to WA for NRL games, following the recent announcement Perth will soon be home to WA’s own NRL team, the Perth Bears, from 2027.
This announcement comes as Qantas confirms plans to launch a new service between Hobart and Perth from September 2025, further enhancing travel options to the State.

As stated by Tourism Minister Reece Whitby:
“This is another exciting step forward in strengthening Western Australia’s domestic aviation network and opening new opportunities for travellers to experience our incredible State.
“The new Newcastle to Perth route not only improves connectivity between the east and west coasts but also supports our tourism and hospitality businesses by bringing thousands of additional visitors to the State each year.
“This welcome announcement is the latest in a series of new flight connections supported by the WA Government, as we aim to better connect Perth with important interstate and international visitor markets.”
