Western Gateway Soars with Increased Flights
Western Australia’s global aviation network has been boosted with the announcement of double daily flights between Hong Kong and Perth.
The additional Cathay Pacific flights will take to the skies from October 2025, adding over 43,000 extra inbound seats into WA each year.
Supported by the Cook Government, through Tourism WA, Cathay Pacific will increase from 11 flights per week to twice daily services on the route, bringing the airline’s total number of seats into WA to more than 200,000 per year.
It also marks the second time in twelve months that Cathay Pacific has increased flight frequency into Perth, in a sign of the growing demand for WA as a destination for visitors from China and Hong Kong (Greater China)
Greater China is WA’s largest international market by visitor spend, with 76,700 travellers spending $388 million across the State in 2024.
Hong Kong is also a popular transit hub for international visitors and the additional Cathay Pacific flights will provide more one-stop connections for several of WA’s key visitor markets, including the United Kingdom, the United States and Japan.
Cathay Pacific will celebrate 55 years of servicing Perth in 2025, with WA the first Australian state or territory the airline began jetting into more than five decades ago.

As stated by Tourism Minister Reece Whitby:
“The Cook Government is thrilled to see an extra 43,000 inbound seats coming into Perth each year, making it easier than ever for visitors to travel to WA and affirming our reputation as Australia’s Western Gateway.
“The uplift in direct flights reflects the Cook Government’s long-standing relationship with Cathay Pacific and our commitment to building aviation and tourism ties with the Greater China market, so we’re pleased to support this route.
“This is the latest in a series of airline announcements for additional services into Perth and boosts our reputation as a growing global aviation hub, with the effects of this increased capacity to inject millions into our tourism industry, as more visitors arrive and spend their tourism dollars across WA.”
