Winchelsea Bowls Club Shining Bright
The future is bright for the Winchelsea Bowls Club, thanks to new lighting ensuring players can bowl day and night.
Parliamentary Secretary for Community Sport Michaela Settle, representing Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence, switched on the club’s new 100 lux LED lighting, made possible by more than $112,000 from the Allan Labor Government.
The Winchelsea Bowls Club has been a hub for lawn bowls in the area since 1932 and now boasts almost 100 members.
The investment has delivered four new light towers around the green allowing the club to host more bowls from barefoot to pennant throughout the year.
The new lights in addition to being energy efficient also provide safer bowling conditions for players with visibility at all hours of the day – encouraging greater participation.
The club can now build on its memberships, hold more competitions and host more intra and interclub tournaments.
Michaela Settle MP acknowledged project partner Winchelsea Bowls Club for its more than $37,000 contribution and the Surf Coast Shire for its delivery of the project.
The Victorian Budget 2024/25 is providing more than $23 million to continue delivery of community sport and active recreation infrastructure, and programs to improve participation and accessibility.
