Work To Begin On Road Safety Upgrades

Moira Shire residents will soon benefit from nearly $1m of investment in critical road safety improvements, with works to commence on improving three dangerous black spots across the region.

Works include safety upgrades such as improved signage, line marking, sealed shoulders, splitter islands, and electronic speed limit signs.

Construction is scheduled to begin in March, with completion expected by May 2025.

Local contractor O’Loughlin Excavations Pty Ltd (OLEX) has secured a $967,131.70 contract as part of the road safety investment which is fully funded by the Australian Government’s Black Spot Program.

Moira Shire Council Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson PSM said the works demonstrate the Council’s commitment to improving local road safety.

“These critical safety improvements will benefit all road users in our community,” Dr Emonson said.

“By addressing these known black spots, we’re taking proactive steps to reduce crash risks and create safer journeys for residents and visitors.”

“OLEX is a locally-based contractor with extensive experience delivering road safety improvements in our shire. Their local knowledge and expertise will ensure these crucial upgrades are delivered efficiently and to a high standard.”

The works will target three specific locations:

Council is also advised that the Department of Transport and Planning will shortly commence upgrade works for the Labuan Road / Murray Valley Highway intersection, with these works also being funded by the Black Spot program. Those works are expected to be completed by the middle of the year.

The Black Spot Program targets road locations with a history of crashes to reduce the risk of future incidents and improve overall road safety.
