Wurdi Baierr Aquatic Centre Construction Begins
The Wurdi Baierr Aquatic and Recreation Centre project in Torquay has reached an exciting threshold with main construction now underway.
Contractors have completed preliminary site works, including delivery of a new car park and a new path linking the car park, Wadawurrung Way and Kuwarrk Lane with the existing Wurdi Baierr Stadium.
New fencing now encloses the main construction site where pools will be excavated and the double-storey building will rise.
The centre is a partnership project involving the Australian Government, the Victorian Government and Surf Coast Shire Council.
Construction is significantly supporting the local economy, with 70 per cent of the 71 workers inducted to date being from the Geelong Region Alliance region including Surf Coast Shire, and 89 per cent of the total project expenditure let to date going towards the G21 economy.

The cost for stage one works is $46.34 million. Surf Coast Shire Council is grateful to receive $20 million from the Australian Government and $16.68 million from the Victorian Government. Stage two works will be fully funded by the Victorian Government, with the amount to be confirmed.
Main construction is expected to be complete late in 2026.
