Labor ignores opportunity to address housing crisis with Arden precinct

The Victorian Greens have called the Victorian Labor Government’s decision not to include mandatory affordable housing in Arden a backwards step in addressing the housing crisis.

They say it once again demonstrates how this Government allows property developers to get away with not paying their fair share towards more affordable housing.

Quotes attributable to Deputy Leader of the Victorian Greens, Ellen Sandell MP:

“Victoria is in a housing crisis and a project like this is the perfect opportunity to build more public and affordable housing close to transport links and health care.

“Yet the Victorian Labor Government has instead opted to make it completely voluntary which is likely to result in very few affordable homes.

“The Government should have required at least 20 to 30 per cent of the project to be public and affordable housing. That is how we address housing affordability.”
