Albury Wodonga Regional FoodShare is an incredible asset to our community, providing food relief to communities within a 150 kilometre radius, rescuing food and feeding thousands of people each week.
Earlier this year FoodShare invited myself and Sussan Ley, Member for Farrer, to inspect their facilities, and learn about their plans for growth and the challenges they face.
Sussan and I both wrote to the Minister for Social Services Amanda Rishworth MP to highlight the unique challenges FoodShare faces as a cross-border service existing so far from the major cities.
This week I met with Minister Rishworth, alongside FoodShare’s Operations Manager Sue Thornton and a representative from Sussan Ley.
It was a productive meeting, where the Minister heard first-hand about the reality of the needs in our communities, and the shortcomings in current funding arrangements. She listened carefully and we know this isn’t the end of the conversation.
I’m so proud to represent our community, particularly an organisation like Albury Wodonga Regional FoodShare and all their volunteers.
