In Fiji we visited the Australian Pacific Aged Training Coal...

Helen Haines MP

In Fiji we visited the Australian Pacific Aged Training Coalition at the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences in Suva.

These fabulous aged care workers are completing the final component of their certificate two studies in partnership with TAFE Queensland and they will be heading to aged care facilities on the Gold Cost shortly.

I was so impressed with the quality of the training and the wonderful compassion and knowledge of these students. Most of them will stay in Australia for three years and then return home to Fiji with new skills and experience.

I spoke to the course coordinators about the work undertaken in training aged care workers by Alpine Health’s Alpine Institute in Indi and the potential to work with this Pacific Coalition to address the worker shortages we face in aged care locally as well.

I was delighted to learn that one of the course leaders grew up in Myrtleford!
