This was a very cool moment – seeing the book that tells the story of how our rural community sparked a social and political movement in the gift shop at Parliament House.

The Indi Way is a book written by a collective of people from north-east Victoria who have been closely involved with the community group ‘Voices for Indi’, which began in Wangaratta in 2012. The group set out to engage the Indi community and to inspire more active participation in politics so that they could demand a better standard of representation.

It is a behind-the-scenes account of how a rural community found its own voice, elected its own independent representatives, and inspired a national movement that is transforming Australian politics.

With forewords by Barrie Cassidy, Laura Tingle and Cathy McGowan AO, 12 authors reveal how the Indi community used values-based, respectful processes to rewrite the political playbook.

A series of book launches are being held across Indi, as well as in Melbourne and Canberra.

Benalla: Benalla Library, May 17, 6pm
Wangaratta: Wangaratta Library, May 18, 6pm
Wodonga: Church St Hotel, May 19, 6pm
Canberra: Paperchain Bookstore, May 20, 6.30pm

RSVPs for all events to [email protected] 03 9388 8780.

If you can’t along to one of the launches head to your local bookstore to pick up a copy, this is a great way to support our local booksellers!
