Help us bring the National Biosecurity Strategy to life

National Biosecurity Strategy Implementation Plan launches

On 8 February 2024, we launched the National Biosecurity Strategy Implementation Plan. It supports the National Biosecurity Strategy (NBS) and aligns with our vision of a connected, resilient, and shared national biosecurity system that protects Australia.

The plan outlines governance arrangements and will inform planning over the life of the NBS, to 2032. This will help biosecurity stakeholders to develop the first National Action Plan, future plans and track ongoing progress.

Development of the plan was overseen by the National Biosecurity Committee, with significant contributions from the National Biosecurity Strategy Implementation Committee (NIC) and Working Group (WG). The NIC and WG include representatives from governments, plant and animal industries, freight and logistics organisations, environmental groups, research organisations and a First Nations representative body.

These groups have used their networks to bring broader biosecurity system stakeholders’ views to the table to prepare the implementation plan. We commend the NIC and WG for leading the implementation and governance of the NBS in a robust, transparent and effective way.

In the coming months there will be further public consultation to develop the National Action Plan.

We will post more opportunities for stakeholders to contribute to strengthening the biosecurity system. Stay tuned! This includes upcoming public consultation on the development of the first National Action Plan.
