There is a national tragedy unfolding in Alice Springs – and it demands the PM’s immediate attention.
Children are sleeping during the day and missing school to avoid being at home at night time.
They’re out at night committing crimes because they don’t want to go back into their home environment.
I visited Alice Springs before Christmas last year. I spoke to local Indigenous leaders, women, mothers, and grandmothers and I shared what I learnt with the Prime Minister.
This isn’t a problem of either side of politics. We need to work together to tackle this issue.
We will support any measure required to restore law and order in Alice Springs. This situation needs the urgent intervention of the Prime Minister and the Government.
