The Palaszczuk Labor government’s announcement today to limit rent increases to just once per year – with no limit on the AMOUNT – is a slap in the face to the thousands of Queensland renters who were expecting real action from this government. For anyone on a 12-month lease, this policy is just the status quo – no change whatsoever.
So today I’m giving the government a chance to do the right thing by renters, and debate and pass the Greens Rent Freeze Bill today.
Desperate renters need the government to take the housing emergency seriously – not the status quo, so Labor can please their real estate lobby mates.
Renters often have no assets and are among the lowest income earners – the government needs to protect working people and families, not the incomes of investors.
