Senator the Hon Tim Ayres

Visit to Indonesia | Ministers and Assistant Ministers

This week I will travel to Indonesia to reinforce our commitment to strengthening trade and investment with one of our closest neighbours.

Indonesia is home to more than 270 million people and is on track to be one of the world’s largest economies by 2040. Australia is well positioned to be part of this growth.

Following the launch of the Albanese Labor Government’s landmark report Invested: Australia’s Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040, I will be meeting with a range of Indonesian ministers, as well as the Indonesia Investment Authority to discuss ways to unlock economic opportunities for our two countries and the region.

While in Jakarta I will address the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia on the potential for the Australia-Indonesia relationship. I also look forward to engaging with Indonesian and Australian businesses and investors to hear their ideas on bolstering our economic partnership.

Ahead of Australia’s hosting of the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit in March, I will attend meetings at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta to see how we can boost our trade under our recently upgraded ASEAN free trade agreement.

I will also visit a dairy production project supported by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research, and KONEKSI, a partnership of Australia and Indonesian universities to address water and energy security.

Australia looks forward to working with Indonesia to fully realise the economic potential of our relationship, and support our exporters diversify their trade in this important market.
