The Liberal’s plan for the new Women’s & Children’s Hospital would’ve incurred a significant cost blowout to $2.8 billion & resulted in:
➡️One fewer overnight paediatric bed than current WCH
➡️Critical care services straddled across multiple floors
➡️No expansion capacity for WCH or the RAH
Clinicians have warned the site was not fit for purpose and the hospital size too small for critical services.
It is clear the former government’s proposed site for the new Women’s and Children’s Hospital was short-term thinking.
