Shaping the future of retirement villages

Today the Shadow Minister for Consumer Affairs, Tim McCurdy, joined the Nationals Member for Shepparton District, Kim O’Keeffe, in the region to hear feedback on the Retirement Villages Act.

Ms O’Keeffe thanked everyone that made an appointment to meet with Mr McCurdy and herself.

“We had a really productive morning hearing from a wide range of local people who each shared productive feedback on a number of important matters,” she said.

“I’d like to thank everyone that came along for sharing their lived experience with us and helping us to understand any concerns they may have, which will help inform the future changes to retirement villages.

“As we know, retirement villages play a substantial part of people’s lives. We want to make sure the process is understood and that locals making the move have the support they need to make an informed decision.

“From our conversations, it is apparent that changes need to be addressed and it is important that the community feels understood raising any issues they may have,” said Ms O’Keeffe.

Their discussions centred around retirement village’s entry and exit fees, dispute resolution processes, and a range of matters that need attention.

Mr McCurdy is continuing to meet with the community and stakeholders around Victoria to gather input on the Retirement Villages Act.
