The federal and state governments have announced their funding agreement for the 2032 Olympics. Billions will be poured into this short-term event and could mean our community loses a beautiful school and park 😞 Over the coming weeks, our MPS will keep doing what they’ve done from the very beginning – engaging with the East Brisbane and Kangaroo Point communities, so we can best fight for what they want and need.

More from Amy MacMahon – Greens MP for South Brisbane 👇

The State and Federal Governments have just announced $7 billion in public funding for the building of Olympics venues in Brisbane, including $2.7 billion for the demolition and rebuilding of the Gabba Stadium and $3.4 from the Feds for Olympics venues throughout Brisbane.

It’s thanks to the huge community pushback, led by East Brisbane State School P & C Association and Friends Of Raymond Park, Kangaroo Point that the Federal Government wants to wash their hands of the now $2.7 billion Gabba rebuild project. It’s now up to the State Government to decide if they are really going to sacrifice a state school and a local park for a 4-week event.

To put it in context, $2.7 billion could pay for:

🏠 6,000+ public homes
đŸ«100 schools across the state
đŸŒ 130 maternity units (that’s one in every QLD town)
🚌 Free public transport for 8 years

Instead, the government will destroy a state school and a local park and make housing affordability worse.

Let’s be clear here. People don’t want this.

The Government has done zero consultation with our community or East Brisbane State School. But we have. And the vast majority of locals do not want the government wasting billions of taxpayer money on a project that will leave us without a primary school and a local park.
