Venezuela’s spiral into chaos
Venezuela’s spiral into chaos and violence should not be seen as a simple, ‘left’ versus ‘right’ political conflict. A huge number of ordinary people are caught up in this unfolding disaster, including many Venezuelan Australians with family and loves ones threatened by the escalating violence and instability.
Simplistic political mantra’s are used by extreme elements on both sides of this conflict as cover and justification for violence, human rights abuses and an erosion of important democratic principles. Venezuela has the potential to spiral out of control if all parties don’t respect human rights and commit to a long term transition to peace and core democratic principles.
