'The System Is Broken': Annual Income Needed To Afford A House Now $164K, Says New Data

The Australian Greens

What an absolute joke.

You shouldn’t have to earn $164K to afford a place to live in this country.

Lots of people are already getting a second job to try and make ends meet – and it is still not enough to buy a home.

It’s ridiculous that in a crisis like this, Labor still want to keep giving massive tax discounts to people who already own multiple homes – making it easier for them to buy their fifth than someone else to buy their first.

If we scrap negative gearing and the capital gains tax discount – we can use that money to build the public housing that we need.

The housing crisis is out of control. We can’t tinker around the edges or afford to and let the Government make it even worse.

It’s time for action.
